We have enough interest that the Peep Show will go on! It will be smaller than previous years, but that is okay. :)
All-O-ver, Ol-i-vore . . . we're learning that Oliver's name has some fun mispronunciations.
Also, ask him what is name is and this is what you'll hear: "My name is Oli . . . Oli . . . Oliv . . . Oli . . . I don't know."
Here I am at SFO. Again. What should have been a 40 minute layover has turned into a 5 hour layover with merely a possibility of getting on the red-eye at 10:30. Flying standby. And if I don't get on the standby flight . . . they tell me my next shot at JFK isn't for 24 hours. Yeah. So let's hope that doesn't happen. And if I don't get on standby, well, there's got to be another way home.
S: Oliver, Is Mom a child of God?
O: Yes!
S: No, Mom is a grown up!
The one night -- ever -- when Micah and I get to bed at 10:00 and could, feasibly, get 9 hours of uninterrupted sleep, Simon wakes up crying inexplicably at midnight and can't go back to sleep, Oliver falls out of bed, and we're all out a couple of hours of sleep. Clearly we need to never try to go to to bed early. It's the only way to get a good night's sleep around here.
I’m going to go out on a limb and estimate that the average age of concert-goers at the free They Might Be Giants concert at Prospect Park last Saturday afternoon was 8.3. That does not include babes in utero, which, I assure you, were not a few.
We all had a great time. Simon didn’t necessarily know what was going on and wanted to go home before they’d even sung “Istanbul (Not Constantinople)” (imagine!), but he sure liked dancing with us and especially the confetti cannon that went off every now and then.
And now I’m all pumped to get some more of their music playing around the clock at our place so that Simon can get it into his head that “No!” means no. And also so that I can feel like a hip mom who has hip music playing while still being sensitive to the intellectual development of her children. Or something like that. Because that is how you feel when you are rocking out to songs about 7 and the Vowel Family all day long.
Fun! We especially like rocking out to their songs about conifers and never going to work.
Have you seen the "For the Kids" albums? They are awesome. A bunch of popular artists got together to sing traditional kids songs (like "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star") and some new songs too. It's helped me ease into more kid's songs.
I love free concerts in the park, how fun! We got to see the opera couple last summer, it was totally awesome. I bet TMBG was super fun!
I love that last picture of Simon and Micah. How fun! Jarom got Jon and me tickets to see the Fray and Jack's Mannequin this Saturday. Should be fun!
This is my favorite thing about TMBG:

SWEET!! I so wish we'd been there.
