It is just my opinion, but I think it was too long.

It is just my opinion, but I think it was too long.

We watched this movie last night:

Has anybody else seen it? Did anybody else wonder if maybe the director simply forgot to turn off the camera and that it would keep going and going and going? I think it must have been the longest movie I’ve ever seen. Maybe it was the slow Southern drawls. Maybe it was the fact that we knew exactly where it was going. Maybe it was that I couldn’t help but think of “The Princess Bride” whenever they went back to Daisy’s hospital room and really wanted Benjamin to say, “As you wish,” at some point, just to lighten things up a bit. But by the end of the movie, which was very well made, well acted, had good cinematography, an interesting premise, etc. etc. etc., the only thing I could think was, “It finally ended.” And also, “That was based an a short story? 700 page books get made into shorter movies!”

That is all.

  1. What a coincidence. We watched Benjamin Button last night too. I couldn't agree more. Kate Blanchett was really great, and it was beautifully shot, but it was too long. I had to pull out my watercolors halfway through in order to stay awake. It was a good movie for multitasking.

  2. I actually wasn't too distracted by the length. There were times when I wondered how much longer it could go on, but all in all I really liked it. Probably because the makeup alone kept my attention pretty occupied.

  3. I never finished it because it was tooo long. so I totally agree.

I wanted to finish it because it was a good movie, but really like you said I knew where it was going and it just didn't feel like something I HAD to watch the end of.

  4. i was distracted by brad pitt…still a hottie!! lol! oh – but we watched transformers lastnight and i thought THAT was waay too long!

  5. Interesting…we watched it a couple of weeks ago…my thoughts were:
    1) this is long
    2) this is weird
    3) (near the end) this is sad
    4) some beautiful cinematography and a great message
    5) that was long
    6) whew!

  6. I didn't have a problem with the length, and overall I really liked it. There were a couple of parts that I thought were gross and unnecessary, but mostly I liked it a lot. There was something at the end that I really didn't like, but I won't mention it here just in case other readers haven't seen it. But overall I liked it quite a lot.
