Knock, Knock.

Knock, Knock.

So, I have a bit of a random request for everyone.

I have a couple of projects that I am working on that would greatly assist the organization of our apartment. For these projects, however, I need a bunch of door knobs. I want to collect a variety of old and new and simple and decorative. I will need around 5 or 6 sets (or 10-12 knobs).

I kicker is that, as always, I don’t really want to spend any money. After all, what’s the point of cool DIY projects if they cost more than the real thing. Also, we’re poor. So, we have been keeping our eyes out for random door knobs being thrown away or sold for really cheap and I was hoping you all would do the same. If you find any, just snap a picture and send it to me or Lizzie. We can then figure out how to get it to New York without spending more on shipping then on the knob itself.

Thanks for your help.

  1. are you a member of freecycle? you might find some there. we’ll keep our eyes open. sounds like a cool project.

  2. Also there is a cool industrial salvage place here in Seattle, and I’ve been looking for a reason to go in there. We’ll take a look.

*note: we may steal your idea if it looks cool

  3. I’m anxious to see what you’re up to. In high school Gina and I collected doorknobs to copy an idea we saw on the movie Benny and Joon. They had a terrific set of old doorknobs hanging with fishing line from their ceiling. Hmmm… what DID I do with all of those doorknobs after high school?! You’ve got me wondering now. If I run across any lot of doorknobs I’m happy to send them your way.
