Avoiding the Bite

Avoiding the Bite

My consciousness is being invaded by a coven of vampires. You all know what I’m talking about. There are ads all over the subway. Billboards wherever I look. Newspaper articles with compelling titles. I cannot ignore them, as much as I try. Two summers ago, my sister brought Twilight with her when she came to visit after Simon was born. I read half of it, got annoyed by Edward’s inhuman good looks (inhuman my eye, Bella obviously never met Micah), shut the book, and promised myself I wouldn’t get sucked in. So here we are a year and a half later. I’ve had conversations with several friends about the story, the execution, the editing (or lack thereof), etc. and I always remind myself that I’m not going to get sucked in. I don’t care to. I don’t need to. My time is better spent with my family. Now, with Edward and Bella ambushing me at every corner, I just repeat to myself:

“There’s no vampire like Micah.”

“There’s no vampire like Micah.”
“There’s no vampire like Micah.”

  1. Lizzie, that is hilarious. I’m glad you’ve found your vampire and have not been sucked into Edward and Bella’s “you smell good” relationship. I’ve kept myself pretty well unbitten as well, and am pleased to keep it that way.

  2. Ha ha ha, that is hilarious!! Excellent pictures, especially the one with the lighting behind Micah. So I’m curious, though – you said Micah just turned thirty, but how old is he really??? ;0)

  3. hahaha! i have a very edwardish picture of thomas that i use as a bookmark when i read the books and that way i am never jealous of edward and bella because i have my own . :) lame, i know. haha.

awkward confession no.2: thomas has a certain black shirt that i call his edward shirt and he wear to get on my good side. i cant stay mad at my reali life edward… hahahaha :)

  4. you are too funny, lizzie. i think that’s the first and only pic i’ve seen of your wedding. lovely. anyway, you are SO right…our time IS better spent with our families – and THAT is why i’m still reading new moon. lol!

  5. ok… i rolled with this idea on my blog. but unlike you … i am not strong enough to withstand the twilight pressure… i gave in long long ago.. i’ve been bitten. it’s too late.

  6. Abby, after that comment I don’t think I dare confess how many times in the past 4 years I’ve told Micah, “You smell good.” Not that I could confess because I have no idea of the number. Let’s just say it happens often enough that we both laughed at your comment. Hahaha.

But he does smell really good. Even after running a marathon.

  7. Ugh, be glad you stopped when you did. They didn’t get much better, I know because I read them all…then wished I hadn’t. :)

Micah makes a pretty good vampire.

  8. Too funny! I have to say, I am totally excited to see the movie this weekend with my Twilight-fan friends… but mostly so I can have a girls’ night out with my friends! Though I’m not expecting much. You’d think they could find a better looking guy to play Edward… Conan beats him by a mile. At least.

I did enjoy the first book… but I’m not sure I’ll be reading the whole series… though I’m such a curious cat I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop myself.

  9. Do you think the book is age appropriate for Emoree? ALl of her friends are raving about it but it looks a little high for my tween.

  10. hey lizzie – me again…

i know u probably don’t do cheesy things like this, but i found it to be kinda fun – so if u want – check out my last post because i tagged ya! =)

  11. Lizzie,

At this point in my life, Edward is all I have…I didn’t even like the books that much…I haven’t been smitten and bitten, I just have nothing else. So what if the only reason she likes him is because he smells good, isn’t smell merit enough at this point? You have Micah…so what are the rest of us supposed to do? Mystical characters are all I have, I’m not into married men. HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!

  12. I felt the same way Kareena does up until a few months ago, and that’s why I kept reading. Twilight was fine (I agree with Abs though- I got rather sick of hearing how wonderful Edward smelled and so sick of how objectified Bella was) but I didn’t care much for New Moon. I read Eclipse (I’m not even sure this is the right order!) and liked it better than New Moon, and I’ve been reading Breaking Dawn for the past several months because I’ve just got to know how it ends- but I’ll be honest- you’re not missing much.

I must say that I love the pictures. Ü

  13. Those are awesome pictures! You are so hilarious! I’m proud to say I have remained unbitten as well! In fact, I have not even read a single word, thank you very much!
